Chris Coleman

Assistant Coach - Men's Soccer

Bates College

Chris begins his first season as an assistant coach with Bates in 2019 after serving as Technical Director for GPS Maine for the past five years.

"I can't wait for the season to start," Coleman said. "Knowing Bates athletics and Tyler, it is an exciting time for the men’s soccer team.  We have a talented group of first-years joining our ranks and we are on the brink of something special.  After meeting the returning lads I can sense we all have the desire to perform and take the program to the next level."

As a player, Chris was an attacking talent throughout his career in Liverpool, England where he garnered many goal-scoring accolades through the youth systems.  Eventually, injuries ended his career and he began coaching.  Chris holds a heralded UEFA B coaching license. He started coaching in the U.S. at 18 and has left his mark in Chicago, Ohio and even Canada before settling in Maine.

In Maine, Chris was the Technical Director of Global Premier Soccer Maine and also a GPS National team coach. His GPS National teams have won the Dana Cup and Gothia Cup.  In addition, Chris assisted the Portland Phoenix USL 2 Men’s team.  As head coach with the Yarmouth High School girls soccer team he led them to the Maine Class B state championship and an undefeated 18-0 season in 2017.
